This is an interesting find. The protrait was purchased by Lindsey and Sean Hale around 1997, with no provenance provided. It was painted by Helen Brookfield King in 1928, and has been done from a photograph of Mary Edith Annie Blackler Ashe which, coincidentally I have on my family tree. The similarities are instantly recognisable from the face, posture, and dress. Mary was my aunt, a lovely lady — older sister to my father, Pat Ashe. I don’t remember him mentioning this portrait, which presumably was given by Helen to Mary. Thus, the interesting journey from my aunt’s home to the welcoming home of Lindsey and Sean Hale remains unknown. I am indebted to Lindey and Sean for contacting me and sending in these photos of the portrait.
