Bibliography of sources used in the research of the Family Tree

Many of these documents are now available online. Where this is the case, a link has been provided. Due to the number of source documents, these have now been sub-divided into the following categories:

  • Burke: the Burke family have produced a large number of very useful genealogical documents.
  • Visitations: the heralds’ visitations to a number of counties provide information on pedigrees from those counties.
  • Knights and Barons: a few ancestors joined the ranks of the nobility.
  • Arms and Crests: books on heraldry with references to the Ashe family.
  • France: a view of the Bellesme ancestors who came from Normandy.
  • England.
  • Devon: the Ashe family originated from Devon, and there are a number of source documents to corroborate this.
  • Somerset: some of the Ashe family migrated here.
  • Wiltshire: two of the branches had seats in Heytesbury and Langley Burrell.
  • Ireland: several branches of the family settled in Ireland.
  • America: starting in the Carolinas, the Ashe family began new branches across the Atlantic.
  • India and Ceylon: a number of Ashes served in the sub-continent when the Empire was expanding.
