Rev. Pat Ashe (1915-2009) and Marion Ashe [née Johnston] (1920-2008)

Pat and Marion Ashe - A legend in their own time

Those who have had the opportunity to know and talk to these two remarkable people are indeed blessed.

Pat and Marion began their walk through life together in 1950. Pat was born in Smyrna, Turkey, in 1915, and Marion was born in Port Said, Egypt, in 1920.

Meeting briefly in Cairo at the end of the Second World War, they were married in Southwark Cathedral on 21 February 1950.

They survived raising seven children and at various times sent them out around the world to help others. In 1967, they started an organization called Project Vietnam Orphans with the objective of helping one child, and this later grew into a larger organization, Christian Outreach.

On the occasion of his 90th birthday (15 January 2005), Pat published a limited edition of his book “Dust and Ashes”. It is the story of his journey through life and contains countless examples of how God can make a difference in our lives — if we let Him.

Whether through Christian Outreach, through their parish work, or at a personal level, both Pat and Marion have helped countless children, women, and men find new hope in today’s world.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God”
