David was born on 26 January 1963 in Otley, Yorkshire, where his father, Rev. Francis Patrick Bellesme Ashe was Vicar. David’s mother, Marion Islay (née Johnston) was the daughter of the Rt. Rev. Francis Johnston, Bishop in Egypt.
They moved to St. Mary’s, Leamington Spa in 1965, and David went to School there until they moved to Church Stretton in 1972. He went to the local Church School, and then followed his brothers to Christ’s Hospital. Owing to ill-health, he left CH and finished his schooling in Godalming, Surrey.
After successfully completing a BSc in Agricultural Engineering at Cranfield University, he spent a year in NFD of Kenya working as a volunteer for Food for the Hungry International. On his return, he studied at Queens College, Cambridge. After a period of teaching, he began work with several computer firms. In 1989, he left Wang, and set up a Consultancy on his own. His first Company was ‘IMP’ (Integrated Media Production), and he then started “New Visions”, and now iCapture.
In the course of his work, he met Photographic Artist, Rosemary Thompson, and after following her to Australia, he proposed in the town of Katumba in the Blue Mountains. On 1 April 1995 they were married in the little Church at Porlock Weir in Somerset. David and Rose, with their two sons Edward and Benjamin, used to live in Margaret River in Western Australia, where they enjoyed visiting all the wonderful wineries. They now live in Newport, Sydney, where David is studying for his PhD and Rose continues her amazing work as a photographic artist. Her work can be seen at RoseAshe.info.
David has compiled a fascinating account of the family’s journeys through Australia, which can be found at DavidAshe.info, and which he updates regularly.
